Youth Violence Prevention Program

The Medical Center offers programs to break the cycle of youth violence, together with Caught in the Crossfire, a program of Youth ALIVE! These programs promote a nonviolent lifestyle and assist young victims of violent crimes with a transition back to the community. For information, contact the Injury Prevention Coordinator at 510 535 7648.

Crisis Intervention and Immediate Support
Youth ages 12-20 who enter Highland as a result of a violent injury (gunshot wound, stabbing, or assault) are enrolled in the Youth Violence Prevention Program. Crisis Intervention Specialists provide emotional support and peer counseling at the bedside and at home.

Follow Up Services
Trained staff from Youth ALIVE! continue to encourage safe recovery from trauma by providing support, mentoring, and resources to the young person and his/her family. Services include employment, education, legal advocacy, transportation, counseling, information, and referrals.
