Prenatal Classes and Services for New Parents

Prenatal Classes
The Medical Center offers a series of prenatal classes at all our clinic and hospital locations. The classes start four times each year and run for five sessions. The classes prepare expectant parents for each stage of pregnancy, during labor, and when they take the baby home. The final class of the series is on infant safety. Parents who attend the safety class receive a voucher for an infant car seat. Classes are offered in English and Spanish, and arrangements can be made for other languages. To sign up for prenatal classes please contact the OB Nurse at your health center.

Postpartum Visits
Nurse Educators visit the homes of new mothers within the first few days after discharge from the hospital. Families receiving prenatal care at one of our health centers may receive a postpartum visit for any of the following reasons: first time mother; any problem with delivery, Cesarean section, multiple births, or infants admitted to the Intensive Care Nursery. Please ask your health care provider or clinic nurse to make a referral for you.

Breast Feeding Counseling for New Mothers
We offer support and counseling to breast feeding mothers to identify any problems you may have in breast feeding your infant, and to resolve any worries you may have over your baby’s adequate nutrition. Our goal is to help you and your baby realize the benefits of breast feeding for the best possible start in life. Please ask your health care provider or clinic nurse to make a referral for you.
