Cancer Resources


Bay Area Breast and Cervical Health Collaborative (BABCHC)

Alameda County Medical Center administers this cancer detection partnership for the California Department of Health Services. BABCHC coordinates free clinical breast exams and mammograms, and cervical exams/Pap smears to women who meet age guidelines and have low incomes or are underinsured. Cancer Navigator Program

The Cancer Navigator Program is a joint program of Alameda County Medical Center and the American Cancer Society. The volunteers in the program assist patients in following through with their cancer treatment programs. The program can help by making referrals to social and support services, linking patients with translation services, giving emotional support, accompanying patients to appointments, and researching questions about treatment options and about their type of cancer. Cancer Resource, Information, and Guidance (RIG) Center

The RIG Center is a joint program of the Alameda County Medical Center and the American Cancer Society. It provides resources and information for people going through cancer treatment. At the Cancer RIG Center, you will have access to brochures, Internet resources via "Cancer Net", and articles on the latest in cancer therapies. The RIG Center is located on the 8th Floor of the Acute Tower at Highland Hospital. For hours and information, call the Cancer Navigator at (510) 437-4064.

Cancer Support Groups

The Medical Center offers free support groups for breast cancer and for people newly diagnosed with any type of cancer. These groups are ongoing and new members are welcome. To join a group or for more information contact the Cancer Navigator at (510) 437-4064.

Look Good, Feel Good Program

The Look Good, Feel Good Program provides make-up, wigs, and accessories for people going through chemotherapy. In this program you will learn how to maintain a positive appearance and outlook during your cancer treatment. Please call the Cancer Navigator at (510) 437-4064.
