Primary Care means the regular doctor visits that keep you and your children healthy, help you get better when you are sick, and help you manage chronic diseases like asthma. People who get regular Primary Care stay healthier longer, and are more likely to find out about silent health problems like high blood pressure or pre-cancerous growths before they get out of hand.
When you establish yourself as a regular patient in clinic, you will have access to a physician or other provider who knows your medical history and your medications, and understands your needs. When you make a regular appointment, you can expect to see your Primary Care doctor, although for urgent same-day appointments you may see another provider.
Alameda County Medical Center offers Primary Care appointments at three community health centers around the county as well as at Highland Hospital. Services are provided by a team of physicians, nurses, therapists, educators and case managers. Interpretation is available in 24 languages. If you need to see a specialist, your Primary Care doctor will make the appropriate referral.
