Board of Trustees
Alameda County Medical Center is a Public Hospital Authority governed
by a Board of Trustees. Trustees are appointed by the Alameda County
Board of Supervisors.
The trustees welcome your comments. You may contact them using the email links below.
Regular meetings of the Board of Trustees occur monthly, typically on the fourth Tuesday. Meetings are usually held at Highland Hospital, 1411 E. 31st St., Oakland,
and the public session begins at approximately 5:00 pm. The Board may
schedule additional meetings to conduct its business, as necessary.

Daniel Boggan, Jr., MSW President
Mr. Boggan was formerly a Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Indianapolis, Indiana (1996-2004); Vice Chancellor, University of California, Berkeley (1985-94); and City Manager, Berkeley, CA (1982-86), to name a few of his past employment experiences. Mr. Boggan brings skills in community planning and organization and is excited to be a part of a team that can bring a better quality of life to Alameda County residents. Mr. Boggan was appointed to the Board of Trustees in May, 2005. Mr. Boggan was elected Vice President in January, 2007 and Board President in January, 2010. Mr. Boggan is a member of the Quality Professional Services Committee, Human Resources Committee, Executive Committee and the Adhoc Committee on Long Range Financial Planning. |

Barbara Price, Vice President
Ms. Price is the CEO of PK Consultants, Inc. in Oakland. PK Consultants facilitates public and private development projects. Ms. Price has served as Chairperson on several community organizations and was elected Council Member, City of Antioch from 1982 to 1992 and President of the Bay Division of the League of California Cities in 1998. Ms. Price was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September, 2003. Ms. Price was elected Secretary in January, 2007 and Vice President in January, 2010. Ms. Price is a member of the Quality Professional Services Committee, Executive Committee, Governance Committee, and is the Chair for the Adhoc Legislative Affairs Committee. |

Ron Nelson, MA, Secretary
Mr. Nelson received his education in Public Communication, Sociology and Criminology and was employed in the public sector for 46 years. He served 24 years as a Chief Executive Officer that included Chief of Police, Assistant City Manager and City Manager. Mr. Nelson was appointed to the Board of Trustees in June, 2006 and is Chairman of the Human Resources Committee and a member of the Finance Committee and Governance Committee. |

Kirk Miller, JD
Mr. Miller received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. Mr. Miller Has served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for American Medical International, Inc., Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. Mr. Miller is a member of the California, Colorado and Texas Bars, Board of Director of the San Francisco Legal Aid Society and the Oakland Museum. He is also a member of the Bay Area General Counsel Association, The conference Board, Council of Chief Legal Officers, Chief Legal Officer of the 21st Century Advisory Group, founding member, Vice Chair of the ABA’s White Collar Crime Committee on Healthcare Fraud & Abuse, and is a frequent speaker on business and regulatory matters. Mr. Miller was appointed to the Board of Trustees in December, 2006 and is the Chairman of the Finance Committee and sits on the Executive Committee and the Adhoc Committee on Long Range Financial Planning. |

Floyd Huen, MD, MBA
Dr. Huen is Medical Director, Lifelong Medical Care and Over Sixties Health Center in Berkeley and Oakland. Founding Administrator, Oakcare Medical Group, Board Certified Internal Medicine, MBA with Honors from the Univ. of South Florida; Founder/Co-Founder of California Physicians Alliance and Health Access of California and currently on the Board of CAPA; Member of the Board, Berkeley Biotechnical Education Institute. Previously he was a member of Oakcare Medical Group and worked as both a physician and Medical Director at the Alameda County Medical Center. Dr. Huen is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University, NY. Dr. Huen was appointed to the Board of Trustees in April, 2004 and is the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee.

Valerie D. Lewis, JD
Ms. Lewis received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and is admitted to practice in both California and Michigan (inactive). Ms. Lewis is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she was an Echols Scholar. She has been Senior Corporate Counsel with Safeway Inc., a Fortune 50 company, since 1995. Ms. Lewis is a member of the California Chamber of Commerce Legal Protection and Reform Committees. She also represents Safeway on both the California Grocers Association Legal Advisory Committee and the California Retailers Association Legal Committee. Ms. Lewis is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, Treasurer of the Youth Law Center the Board of the Oakland Ballet and the Heads Up Advisory Board, has also served as a trustee of the Alta Bates Medical Center and is a past char of the Bay Area Urban League. Ms. Lewis was appointed to the Board of Trustees in December, 2006 and is Chair of the Governance Committee and sits on the Finance Committee and Quality Professional Services Committee. |

Stanley M. Schiffman, MPH, MSW
Mr. Schiffman is a management executive with over 35 years of diversified experience in health care and gerontology. He received his Masters of Public Health in Health Care Administration in 1980 from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Science in Social Work in 1963 from Columbia University. Following 20 years of hospital administration, which included strategic and facility planning, Mr. Schiffman was appointed Executive Director of a large, multi-program facility for the aged, which included long-term care, senior housing, and other services for community-based senior citizens. Presently Mr. Schiffman works as a tax specialist and is a consultant on human resources, health care benefits and workers compensation. Mr. Schiffman was appointed to the Board of Trustees in June, 2003, elected Treasurer in 2007 and is a member of the Finance Committee and the Chairman of the Committee on Long Range Financial Planning.

Anthony Slimick
Captain Slimick has served 30 years for the South County Fire Authority, San Carlos, CA. He was awarded Firefighter of the Year for budgeting, and producing a training video for all fire departments in San Mateo, CA. Mr. Slimick was appointed to the Board of Trustees in June, 2006 and is a member of the Quality Professional Services Committee, Human Resources Committee and the Adhoc Legislative Affairs Committee.

J. Bennett Tate
Mr. Tate is a Human Resource and Operational executive with experience in Health Care, Consulting, Higher Education and Heavy Industry. He is a skilled problem solver and change management agent with the ability to assess current operations and employees’ needs. Most recently Mr. Tate has managed a Human Resource Consulting firm. Formerly Mr. Tate was a Vice President of a large hospital. Mr. Tate was appointed to the Board of Trustees in May, 2005 and elected President in January, 2006. Mr. Tate is the Chairman of the Executive Committee, and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Governance Committee. |

Ilene Weinreb, MA
Ms. Weinreb received a Masters Degree in History from the University of Chicago and attended a graduate program at UC Berkeley in City and Regional Planning. Ms. Weinreb has been a full-time volunteer and advocate most of her adult life. The areas she has been most involved in are those related to non-profit housing development, services for the mentally ill, autistic adults, and Alameda County inmates, including incarcerated mothers. Ms. Weinreb was a Councilperson in Hayward from 1968 to 1974; and was elected Mayor of Hayward from 1974 to 1982. Ms. Weinreb was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September, 2003 is a past-President of the ACMC Board of Trustees and is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Human Resources Committee.

Barry Zorthian, MD
Dr. Zorthian was nominated by ACMC's Medical Staff to serve as their representative on the Board of Trustees in 2010. She is an internist in ACMC’s Department of Medicine, and holds an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of California San Francisco. She is a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Currently Dr. Zorthian is a member of the Quality Professional Services Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Wright Lassiter, IIIChief Executive Officer
Wright Lassiter joined ACMC in September 2005, and has worked with the Board of Trustees to define and fulfill the Medical Center's vision of superior clinical results, strong patient loyalty, positive financial performance, and being a leading Bay Area employer of health care professionals. Previously, Mr. Lassiter was Senior Vice-President for Operations at JPS Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas, where he managed 25 ambulatory health centers and many specialty, ancillary and support services; oversaw construction and facility management; and led planning of a 108-bed hospital expansion. Earlier, he was Vice President, Operations at Methodist Health System in Dallas. Mr. Lassiter is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives and the National Association of Health Service Executives. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, with honors, from LeMoyne College, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Indiana University, graduating at the top of his class.
