Chaplaincy Services

CHAPLAINCY SERVICES

At the moment,
When disease makes known its presence
Or trauma steals away the ordinary...
At that moment,
When change sweeps in
without inviation...
At that very moment,
When one stands in need of special care:
Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual...
At that moment of distress;
Pain, mortality, fear...
At that explicit moment,
Chaplaincy.

Chaplaincy Care for patients
Chaplains are unique among health professionals in that their work as caregivers
is primarily focused on spirituality, moral sensibility and existential meaning.  It is the policy of ACMC to provide chaplaincy services for all patients who request such care.  In response to an invitation from the patient, staff or family,  the chaplain will respond with compassionate respect for the spiritual, religious, cultural and emotional concerns of each patient.  Provision for care includes all three campuses; Highland, John George Psychiatric Pavilion, and Fairmont's Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation units.

Chaplaincy support for family members and staff
Chaplains are available fo the provision of chaplaincy services for families and hospital staff. It is often the case that the presence of a chaplain, amidst an emotionally stressful or tragic situation, is found to be helpful and desirable.

Liaison for community clergy
If at all possible, the chaplain will contact the patient's clergy; Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, Imam or other religous care providers, in order for the patient to receive support from his or her own spiritual community.

Fairmont Chapel provides a place for quiet
contemplation for patients and families
