Alameda Health System has a new Canine Visitation Program, and local news stations KTVU, ABC7 and KRON came out to San Leandro Hospital to check it out.

The Canine Visitation Program brings therapy dogs from Valley Humane Society into AHS facilities, providing comfort to both patients and staff. Research has shown that therapy dogs can improve mental health, reduce anxiety and lower blood pressure.

The program started at San Leandro Hospital and Alameda Hospital, and will expand to more of AHS’ facilities. It is provided  in partnership with Valley Humane Society, which certifies the dogs and their handlers.
